(Gratitude)
It is important to gain an understanding of the meaning of gratitude. Gratitude may reflect a cultural norm. Expressing gratitude may be part of our socialization. For example, a simple "thank you" has become an automatic part of our everyday communication.
What is gratitude? Below is one definition of gratitude:
Gratitude is simply the feeling of thankfulness and the expression of appeciation.
The above definition of gratitude suggests that gratitude is both a feeling and a behavior. Expressions of gratitude can involve a simple "thank you" for someone's considerate and kind behavior. The words of gratitude can also be expressed more formally in a gratitude letter, a gratitude card, or gratitude poems.
Gratitude can also viewed as a general attitude towards life that involves seeing the glass as half full. The power of gratitude may be reflected in having a more positive evaluation of one's life.
Expressing gratitude may help to build rapport. Other people may wish to feel appreciated. To help build rapport, it is important to express sincere and heartfelt gratitude.

How to Compliment People ?
Complimenting people can get you very far in life, from making your friends feel good to showing off your good side. Here's how to give compliments the right way.
Steps
- Decide what your purpose is. Are you trying to flatter your boss, make your friend feel confident, tell your boyfriend/girlfriend how hot he/she is, etc.
- Compliments are all about the other person. Focus on them, not how you think of them. For example, say "You look fabulous in that sweater!" rather than "I like how that sweater looks on you." If you want to really make them feel good, try saying, "You make that sweater look good."
- Make eye contact and smile! Showing you are confident in yourself will lend more weight to your compliments and avoid that feeling of insincere flattery or hero worship.
- Don't just pay attention to someone's looks--there are all kinds of good things about people if you pay attention! "You have a beautiful smile" is good, but adding "and your cheerful personality brings out the smiles in everyone around you" is even better.
- Pay a sincere compliment! Being fake is not going to help you.
- Don't compliment him/her too often, it can be really annoying and strange.
Examples of COMPLIMENT
- He told her he admired her paintings and she returned the compliment by saying that she was a fan of his sculptures.
- When customers recommend our company to friends and family members, we consider that to be the highest compliment we can get.
- Boys in the Midwest grow up without a word of praise, their parents fearful that a compliment might make them vain …
--'' Tips
- Keep it general. It is always easier to be vague to avoid making people uncomfortable, and general comments about looking good are usually safe.
- Take a hint from your surroundings, complimenting a co-worker on a project they've done, perhaps, or telling a guy friend they look good in a specific shirt, or any other characteristic of that person's.
- Try complimenting people on things they take pride in.
- Always let compliments come naturally, if they sound forced you will be viewed as insincere.
- In the same vein, keep compliments to a minimum so that you don't seem like a sycophant and each one means more.
- When a compliment fails, just remember it's the thought that counts.
- Don't treat your compliment as the flatter
